The ten-layered nervous tissue membrane of the eye. It is continuous with the OPTIC NERVE and receives images of external objects and transmits visual impulses to the brain. Its outer surface is in contact with the CHOROID and the inner surface with the VITREOUS BODY. The outer-most layer is pigmented, whereas the inner nine layers are transparent.

Retinas were harvested from 6-8 week-old mice, dissociated with papain and treated with DNAse prior to resuspension in FACS buffer (2.5 mM EDTA, 25 mM HEPES, 1% BSA in HBSS ). Populations of interest were identified by the intensity of GFP-fluorescence and isolated via FACS. For RNA-seq, RNA was isolated with Trizol reagent. For ATAC-seq, taransposition reactions were carried out using the standard protocol (Buenrostro et al. Nature Methods 2013) ATAC-seq libraries were prepared using the standard protocol (Buenrostro et al. Nature Methods, 2013). RNA-seq libraries were prepared using the SMARTer Ultra Low RNA kit for Illumina Sequencing-HV (Clonetech).
