The hippocampus proper, subiculum, and DENTATE GYRUS constitute the hippocampal formation. Sometimes authors include the ENTORHINAL CORTEX in the hippocampal formation.

The tissue were fixed and the nuclei were isolated and stained with NeuN antibody to be FACS sorted into neuronal and non-neuronal populations. Chromatin was sheared and ChIP-seq was performed using the following antibodies : H3 Abcam ab1791; H3K4me1 Abcam ab8895; H3K4me3 Abcam ab8580; H3K27ac Abcam ab4729; H3K9ac Millipore 07-352; H3K79me3 Abcam ab2621; H3K27me3 Millipore CS200603. Libraries were constructed from ChIPed DNA using NEBNext Ultra DNA Library Prep Kit for Illumina (NEB, H3K9ac) or MicroPlex Kit (Diagenode, all other marks).
