MeSH Description
The relatively long-lived phagocytic cell of mammalian tissues that are derived from blood MONOCYTES. Main types are PERITONEAL MACROPHAGES; ALVEOLAR MACROPHAGES; HISTIOCYTES; KUPFFER CELLS of the liver; and OSTEOCLASTS. They may further differentiate within chronic inflammatory lesions to EPITHELIOID CELLS or may fuse to form FOREIGN BODY GIANT CELLS or LANGHANS GIANT CELLS. Mononuclear cells were isolated by density gradient centrifugation of PBS-diluted buffy coat/blood (1:2) over Lymphoprep (Stemcell Tech). Following RBC lysis with red blood cell lysis buffer (Sigma) and 3 washes in PBS, mononuclear cells were collected as PBMC. ChIP-seq libraries were prepared for sequencing using standard Illumina protocols
