Histone deacetylase 6 (HDAC6) is a class II histone deacetylase that catalyzes the deacetylation of lysine residues on the N-terminus of core histones. HDAC6 has also been identified as a cytoplasmic deacetylase that acts on tubulin and HSP90 to influence cell motility. Recently HDAC6 has been found to be involved in the stress response as a component of cytoplasmic stress granules.
